Trophy Takers Awards 2020

2019-20 TT annual award winners
2020 has been a tough year for everyone for many reasons. Restrictions placed upon us in almost every facet of life has made things a real challenge. Even with the travel restriction, we had 72 animals taken and rated by TT members over the 2019-20 year, with some outstanding trophies amongst them. In 2019-20 the best of species winners are as follows:

It’s fair to say that Jack Spink’s big red deer he shot with his recurve is the standout trophy for the year, rating at No 3 overall. A great effort by Jack and a trophy to be very proud of. For his efforts Jack wins both the Bill Baker Deer award and the Traditional Award.

This year, the Chairman’s Award will go to Jim Craze for his lovely sambar stag. Like most TT members Jim remains relatively quiet but still gets out in the bush chasing critters with his bow. A Sambar stag is never an easy animal to harvest with the bow, so he has done very well to get another fine trophy. Well done Jim.

Female Bowhunter of the year is Elissa Rosemond for the fourth year in a row. Elissa continues to take quality game with her bow which is a credit to her. Elissa had some close competition this year from Tessa Zappa but couldn’t surpass Elissa’s cracking Rusa stag scoring 198 6/8 DS.

Junior Bowhunter of the year goes to Charlie Payne. Coming from a very strong bowhunting family, it was almost enviable that Charlie would get his name on this trophy and this year Charlie rated two cats, two goats and a fallow stag. A good year that’s for sure – well done Charlie!

Best New Members Trophy goes to Brendan Zappa. Brendan had a good year rating a 270 DS Red stag and cracker scrub bull which missed out on the biggest of the year by 2/8th of an inch. Well done Brendan.

Best Exotic Trophy goes to Greg Hilton for his beautiful summertime Tahr Bull he took earlier this year. A fine trophy and great photograph to go with it – very well done Greggo.
Finally, Best Small Game Trophy goes to Dan Podubinski for his swag of quality foxes he rated this year, including a 10 11/16 DS specimen which comes in at no.4 in the ratings. Rumour has it that Dan may have tried to cook and eat one of the foxes he shot – a story best left for round the campfire I think…. Great trophies Dan, good hunting.

Well that wraps up the award winners for this year – a shame we couldn’t get together to celebrate and recognise them, but was just the way things went this year. We will just have to make next year twice as big! Speaking of which we will endeavour to get some information out ASAP on the venue and timing for next year’s awards weekend. Thanks to all members for their patience this year as communications have not been as frequent as desired. I hope everyone has a safe and great Christmas with family and friends.

Cheers,

Mark Southwell.
